The Sorcerer

The Sorcerer’s “Hate Me, Love Me” song is a humorous expression of the contrast between the Victorian working class and upper class societies.  In the spirit of The Mikado‘s “I’ve Got a Little List” song, for our 2010 production of The Sorcerer, the directors decided to update the text to reflect the contrast between the working and upper classes in current society.

The text for this version was written by our director, Doug Scholz-Carlson, along with Holly Windle.  It was performed in our production by Mather Dolph, as John Wellington Wells and Lara Trujillo, as Lady Sangazure.

Wells:
Hate me!  I drop my H’s – ‘ave through life!
Sangazure:
Love me!  I’ll drop them too!
Wells:
Hate me!  I have a room of Elvis souvenirs!
Sangazure:
Love me!  I’ll dust for you!
Wells:
Hate me! I always drink my beer from a can!
Sangazure:
Love me! That joy I’ll share!
Wells:
Hate me! I am a NASCAR fan!
Sangazure:
Love me! The cap I’ll wear!

Sangazure:
Love me! I’ll switch my Perrier to pop!
Wells:
Hate me! That’s not enough!
Sangazure:
Love me! I’ll go to Wal-Mart to shop!
Wells:
Hate me! The life is rough!
Sangazure:
Love me! Your ice fishing I will share
Wells:
Hate me! You’ll catch a chill!
Sangazure:
Love me! I’ll eat cheese curds at the Fair!
Wells:
Hate me! They’ll make you ill!
