Director’s Notes

Welcome to St. Radegund’s-on-the-Rake. It may look like a typical little English village, but it’s actually a popular (if not swinging) singles community. Aline reminds us that “some of the villagers are married people,” but none of them show up for the festivities. Must be the flu. That leaves us with the menfolk (who have “not been enterprising”) and the maidens (who are “distinctly coy”) to enjoy the interesting effects of John Wellington Wells’ patent oxy-hydrogen love-at-first-sight philter. We hope you’ll enjoy it too.

“Oh joy! Oh joy!
No words can tell
Our state of mind delighted!
          For girl and boy
A marriage bell,
         Will say that we’re united.
True happiness reigns everywhere
And dwells with both the sexes
All will bless Example rare
         Of their beloved Alexis.”
